Many year ago I had seen this film as a tv-series. I was very excited when I found out that it had now appeared on DVD. It was really the best filmed biography of Verdi, or any other composer for that matter, I had ever seen. It was with great regret that I noticed, that the DVD's are technically very flawed. All colours have changed to a certain shade of purple, and there are repeatedly blips and flashes, which indicate clearly that the DVD's were produced from poor, old video tapes rather than from the masters. A real pity! The five stars are, of course, for the artistic quality only, which is brilliant. For the technical side one star would even be too much.
